The Sisters of Charity is an international congregation founded in Italy by St. Bartolomea Capitanio on the 21st of November in the year 1832 with a dream to do good to the neighbour and bring glory to God. St. Vincenza Gerosa was her first companion who offered her life to God in this Institute to realize the dream, after which many young girls followed in their footsteps. The first batch of four young Italian sisters came to India on the 17th of March 1860. The Society of Sisters of Charity from its very inception has developed a profound consciousness that the education of the youth is a vital component of the charism of its foundress St. Bartolomea Capitanio who held the youth “very dear to her heart” and committed herself whole heartedly to their personal growth and development so that they would become agents of change for a just society. We consider every child who enters the portals of Holy Child Institute, to be a sacred trust from God. So as trustee, we nurture them, guide them and empower them to shape their destinies. It is in this manner that we make our contribution everlasting, a legacy to the individual, to the society and to the nation. We do not aim at academic excellence to the detriment of human and spiritual values.
The Vision of Education: In the light of the Gospel and the charism of St. Bartolomea, we commit ourselves to “Educatin for Transformation” by forming individuals to be spiritually oriented, intellecturally alert, morally upright, emotionally balanced, patriotic, socially conscious and be agents of change for a just society.
